Bookish List

Book Series I Started (and loved) but Never Finished

I haven’t finished a lot of series, and I realised this when I was gathering books for my 20 Books for 20 Years post. So, here’s a list of book series I started, enjoyed, and plan to finish. Eventually.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Cinder is one of the many books that have sparked joy in my life, and I can’t really say why I haven’t finished reading this series, especially since I have Winter, which is the book I’m yet to read.

The Premonition by Amy Bartol

It always helps when I have all the books at once, and that was the problem with this series. I binge read the first four books, not knowing that there was a book five that hadn’t yet been released. When I’d waited for over a year to no avail, I had to move on. I now have the fifth book, and I’ll read it one day, but that means I’ll have to re-read the previous books in order to get back into the story.

Kricket by Amy Bartol

I started reading these books when it looked like Ms. Bartol wasn’t forthcoming with the last book in the Premonition series. In fact, while I waited for Iniquity to be released, she released these ones instead, and curiosity got the better of me. I stopped at the first book because I didn’t want to become too invested in an unfinished series. I will definitely continue it, though. One day.

Curse of the Gods by Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington

I wasn’t expecting much when I picked up the first book in this series, but I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t read past Persuasion, and it’s been long enough now that I’ll have to re-read the series in order to refresh my memory. The only thing stopping me is that I’m aware that this is an imperfect story, and I’m concerned that re-reading it would make me more critical than I was at first read.

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

In the book community, I’ve found that it’s taken for granted that a lot of people grew up reading Harry Potter. A lot of people name Harry Potter as the books that got them into reading, and so have a special connection with the series. I’m not one of those people. While I grew up aware of Harry Potter, I didn’t read the books until much later, and so I’m not attached to them. Maybe that’s why I haven’t finished the series till date. Nevertheless, it’s one I enjoyed and plan to finish sometime in the future.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

I read and loved The Wrath and the Dawn but I can’t, for the life of me, remember what happened in it. So, it’s a given that I’ll be rereading it before moving on to the next book.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

*Sighs* I’m out of excuses. I don’t know why I haven’t finished this series, but at this rate, I can only hope I’ll get ’round to doing that.

Are there series you love but for some reason haven’t finished yet? Even though you’ve finally gotten all the books?

There’s certainly a divide about the ending of those books. I don’t even know if I’d like it myself, but I’m really curious now after seeing your opinion 😂

I haven’t read many series on this list, but I can say with full confidence that both Harry Potter and the Lunar Chronicles are well worth finishing!

I have SO many series I need to finish, but the ones that jump immediately to mind are the Newsoul trilogy by Jodi Meadows, Mythos Academy by Jennifer Estep, and Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck. But believe me, there are SO many more 😂
