Mini Reviews: Once Upon A Harem

I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings and reverse harem, so when I heard about this series, I was sold! The Once Upon A Harem series is a joint effort by several authors who are retelling select fairytales the reverse harem way. Each book is a standalone, as it features a different fairytale, so I’m reviewing in the order I read (rather than the order they were released).

While Beauty Sleeps by Ripley Proserpina

My Thoughts:

I’ve read other RH stories by Ripley Proserpina, so I was expecting to be impressed. While this was well written, easy to follow, and just very interesting, it was just too fluffy. Maybe it’s because I was expecting something darker (like other books by the same author), or maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for sweet romance. Overall, this wasn’t bad at all!

Ruffled Feathers by Stephanie West

My Thoughts:

For some reason, I wasn’t expecting an Ugly Duckling retelling to be this steamy. This was R rated through an through. That aside, the world building was creative, but it got very confusing at times. I think my biggest problem with this was with the main character. You know those books where there are just so many misunderstandings between the characters and the heroine just keeps running away? Yeah. This is one. Needless to say, that got old fast. Also, I would have liked this better if the second hand embarrassment wasn’t so intense.

Girl in the Bearskin by C.L. Stone

My Thoughts:

The problem with series like this one is how short the stories tend to be, and this one just went by in a heartbeat! I was most looking forward to this story because the original Bearskin fairytale is just so fascinating and kinda gross, so I was interested in how C.L. Stone would retell it with RH. All I can say is, this is my favourite so far.
